By adding numerous accessories to this powerful little hand vacuum, Black & Decker creates a highly useful tool for all kinds of tasks around the home. In its simplest configuration, the 900-watt vacuum has impressive suction for quick pickups and small areas. But with its added attachments, it can also function as a floor vacuum for bare floors or rugs, as a blower for outdoor areas, or as an inflator for toys and mattresses. Though perhaps not as convenient as a cordless hand vac, this model more than makes up for its 20-foot power cord with its power and wide range of uses. Compact and sturdily made, the vacuum features bagless dirt collection and internal filtration for minimizing the return of particulates to the air in the home. The 13-ounce dirt cup pops off easily for emptying, and the filter includes an indicator to signal when it needs to be cleaned. The long list of attachments includes three extension wands, a flexible hose, a crevice tool, a dusting brush, and the motorized Turbo Beater Brush for stubborn stairs and upholstery. Summary: filter clogs almost constantly 2007-08-06
Comment: This hand vac is an attractive desgn, with a long cord, nice acessories and it can even be used as an inflator for low-pressure inflatables like air matresses, dinghys, beach balls, etc. And yes, its way more powerful than a cordless vac. But as other reviewers have pointed out, it's not designed to be used as a main vacuum cleaner, only as a supplement for smaller jobs.
But the problem is that the filter is a poor design ; it's small and clogs after every few minutes of use, even when only used for light cleaning & dusting jobs. And cleaning the dust out of the pleated filter is not an easy task. Another smaller annoyance is that if you want to use your nozzles from your other vacuum cleaner(s) you already own, you must use the included, short flexible hose as an adapter because they won't attach directly. But I often like to use the short hose anyway, for the greater flexibility and reach it gives.

Comment: The Black and Decker Hand Vac is the best vac that I have ever had. With the many attachments I can do anything that I need to do. I have on order another one since November 22 and have been on the waiting list but I intend to give this to my grandson because I know he will like it.

Summary: Power! ... and decent on the allergies 2007-01-07
Comment: This corded little vac is your answer if you're sick of cordless vacs that don't hold their power like I was. I love it for the car and stairs and corners and family room carpet. Be prepared to buy a lot of filters. The power in this thing does fill the filter quickly but I appreciate them because they help keep my allergies away. When the filter is clean it is also a little bit loud. But the noise means you're being productive (apparently the industry isn't using space age insulation and noise reduction just yet). I own two of these and am thinking of buying a third.

Summary: great for small areas but not a replacement for a real vacuum 2005-12-04
Comment: Since I move often and have a small apartment I bought this unit after my old vacuum broke down. I was hoping it would be sufficient enough for my apartment. I was wrong!
The brush attachment stopped working right away and cleaning didn't help much.
Another problem is that the unit has a very small air filter. Even with a new filter the suction power decreases rapidly right away because the filter gets cluttered up.
Since the small motor spins at a high RPM the unit is also quite noisy.
I only recommend this unit in addition to a real vacuum.

Comment: I have a regular sized vacuum but bought this for more convenient use in obscure locations. I am very pleased as it is as advertised and 'filled the bill.'
