Amazon.com Review
Twice as powerful as DustBuster's 4.8-volt vacuum, this 9.6-volt cordless model runs as long as ten minutes on one charge and picks up more dirt in tackling tough cleaning jobs. Two settings let you choose between long-running time and extra power for big messes. Two accessories are included: a four-inch crevice tool and a firm upholstery brush, great for picking up pet hair, both of which handily store on board. Screws are included for mounting the base on a wall for recharging and grab-and-go convenience. The hand vacuum needs to be fully charged overnight before its first use; afterwards it's always ready to use when stored in the charging base. DustBuster's double action filter system sends large particles into the generous 13-1/2-ounce capacity dirt bowl, and traps fine particles in the pleated filter. The dirt bowl is easily snapped off and shaken clean, and the filter can be washed and reused, a good money-saving feature. The vacuum measures 17 by 5 by 5-1/2 inches, and is covered by a two-year warranty against defects. --Ann Bieri

Summary: Useful, But Remember To Clean It! 2007-06-24
Comment: I got this from someone who was getting married and were consolidating all their household items, so the price was right. When I first tried it, I was slightly let down - it seemed to lack power. I won't repeat the previous reviews - mostly accurate from what I've seen so far - but I will add a couple of notes which may be useful if you own one already.
First, the washable filter is a big plus. One pitfall is that, while the filter is a two-stage affair, it only looks like it's one piece. However, a glance at Black & Decker's service site shows that they have the manual online. It was only while viewing the pictures in the online manual that I found this out.
So, cleaning it was a big surprise! Evidently the prior owner had never done so, and it was stuffed! The detritus between the filter pleats can be removed by gentle scraping with a fork you really don't care for anymore. Something pointy but dull, such as a knitting needle, would also help. And washing the filter parts in the kitchen sink will remove a lot of the gunk, too.
After the filter had dried, suction was much improved. I feel a lot more enthusiastic about my new free toy!
Another note is that the charger draws a slight amount of current, even when the DustBuster is not in the charger. I'd unplug it if it's lightly used, but your mileage may vary.
Replacement filters are available on the Black & Decker site for a couple of bucks, and a replacement battery is about twenty-five bucks, once you find the V9610 parts. (June 2007 prices.)
Conclusion: This is not a heavy-use tool, get out the shop vac for those cases. For light cleanup, it's fine, and I expect useful service from mine within those limits. 3-1/2 stars.

Summary: Does the job even though it's falling apart 2005-11-26
Comment: Bought it about a year ago. Great for kitty litter, hair and dustbunnies off the bathroom and hardwood floors. Attachments on underside continue to unsnap by themselves and fall off while using the dustbuster. On-off slide button now gets stuck in the "on" position and is really hard to turn off. Not strong enough to vacuum the car interior. Fine for minimal daily use aside from falling apart little by little. (My father also bought the same one and has the same problem with the little attachments falling off while using it.)

Summary: good vacuum - doesn't last long 2004-11-20
Comment: The vacuum is good when it's fully charged. Unfortunately, the charge doesn't hold for very long (4 min?). This isn't long enough to clean up even one job (such as a cattail exploding or vacuuming along the edges of the baseboard).

Summary: Good while it lasts... 2004-10-28
Comment: This is an impressively powerful little hand vac... while it lasts. This one lasted us about a year before it died and stopped holding a charge. With a 2 year warranty, I'd hope it would last better, unfortunately this isn't something I ever thought about saving the receipt for. SO SAVE YOUR RECEIPT!

Summary: Cat Owner's Life Saver 2004-09-07
Comment: I have one cat, and my neighbor has 3. We both own this item and it is our lifesaver! Anyone with hardwood floors knows that feeling of the tiny pieces of dirt that you can feel on your feet when you walk bare-foot. I can't tell you how annoying it is to walk on a pebble of kitty-litter on your floor (not to mention gross). I used to lug out my huge vacuum cleaner 3 times a week to get the small pebbles around the litter box, or the tiny pieces of food around the food bowl. This item picks it all up! From broken pieces of catfood, to cat hair under the bed and in the corners of your house, to even cobwebs in the corners of your home, this saves so much time and energy! It's pretty powerful for it's size. My neighbor and I swear by this little life-saver.
