Eliminating the need for two separate vacuums--one for thorough cleaning and one for quick-and-easy touchups--the Eureka Optima has all the power, features, and performance of a conventional upright coupled with the light weight and convenience of a stick. Where the Optima doesn't cut corners is suction: at just under 12 pounds, this machine can out-draw units twice its weight, and its HEPA filter captures more than 99.9% of dust mites, pollen, and other allergens for cleaner indoor air. Its 12-amp dual- motor system devotes one motor to suction and another to turning the rotating brushroll, which can be switched all the way off for gentle cleaning of hardwoods and other delicate surfaces. The unit's bagless construction eliminates the hassle and expense of disposable vacuum cleaner bags, and its comfort-grip looped handle has 13 different adjustable positions customizable to all users in the family, from the shortest to the tallest. Surprisingly versatile for such an inexpensive machine, the Optima also comes with a decent selection of onboard tools, including a dusting brush and crevice wand as well as Eureka's unique Power Paw. This handheld attachment features a powerful brushroll to remove ground-in dirt and pet hair; its "Riser Visor" shield flips up and down to convert from vertical to horizontal cleaning on surfaces from stairs to upholstery. Suction control allows users to direct power from the floor nozzle to the hose, resulting in a stronger, dedicated airflow in both modes. Summary: There's hardly anything better for a small place 2008-11-28
Comment: I have had this vacuum for a few months. I usually vacuum the whole house (600 sq. feet) once a month, and vacuum small areas a few times a week.
My criteria for a vacuum were that it needed to be small (due to the lack of storage space), upright, it needed to have a hose, and a motor driven brush (to remove pet hair). This vacuum fits the bill, and works mostly well. The suction is excellent, the brush pics the pet hair very well, and the turbo brush attachment is wonderful for the furniture and hard to get places. The hose is just long enough to pick the spiders at the ceiling level.
The problems:
1. forward facing exhaust. The easy solution is simply tilting the vacuum back a little more. If it's at 45 degrees it will not blow the dust in front of it.
2. The dust sticks to the filter and blocks it. This can be mitigated by putting a piece of pantyhose over the filter (I have uploaded pictures). $2 pair of pantyhose from Walgreens last me a few months, and made it easy to remove the dust from the filter.
Otherwise I like the vacuum very much, and it makes an excellent job of keeping our little house clean and dust free.

Comment: I'm very happy with this vacuum. It's strong and has all the benefits of the very large vacuums including on board tools. I'm used to a self-propelled vacuum, so on carpet this is a little different to use (requires a little muscle), but it does a terrific job and I'm always amazed at the amount of debris it picks up. I purchased this for my lower level and I also us it on the stairs and find it convenient to use. The adjustable height ergonomic handle is nice and easy on the hand. I had already purchased a similar model of this vacuum for my son in college, and it is still going strong. This is my first bagless vacuum, so far I like it a lot, I know I won't miss the replacement bags!

Summary: Just a waste of money 2008-10-29
Comment: I bought this vacuum because I was sick of big, heavy, and noisy upright vaccums, but my hope quickly turned to complete disappointment as I started to use this product.
Is it lighter than traditional full-size upright vacuums? No way! It's smaller but even heavier than my old big full-size Panasonic upright vacuum!
Is it quieter? Not at all. Very noisy!
It's worse. My old big Panasonic vacuum moves smoothly on carpets when brush is rotating, but this one is very heavy to move on long-leg carpets even when brush is rotating. I bought this with expectation that cleaning jobs would be easier but the reality is that cleaning jobs have become harder with this product!
The manual is very poor and you have to do guesses and some trial and errors to understand how it actually works.
I feel I was betrayed and will never buy Eureka products again.
